Welcome to 3rd Grade. My name is Priscilla Engeldinger and I am the 3rd Grade teacher at St. Joachim School. This is my second year teaching, and I am so excited to have another great year! I have learned so much over the past year and I am blessed with such a wonderful school community to help me continue my growth. I am a product of the Oakland Diocese, and I continued my education and graduated from California State University Northridge, and received my B.A. in Media Management. I also received my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from Chapman University. This year we look forward to many exciting and challenging experiences. Some of these include learning cursive, multiplication, and division. We also look forward to learning about our local history of Hayward, which will include trips to Hayward Museum and the McConaghy House. If you love to read, third grade is the place for you! We have some wonderful novels we will explore this year! We will also be becoming better writers, as well as better followers of Jesus. 3rd grade will be a wonderful year! | 3rd Grade Curriculum Religion: Lessons this year focus on specific scripture stories, liturgical seasons, and prayer. Family life activities occur during the last two months of school. Reading genres will all be explored. Students will also be introduced to literature circles. We will also be working on the writing process this year, which includes the following steps: prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing. Social Studies:Students will begin to study lessons on California regions and develop skills involving maps. Third grade students will also learn about our local history, specifically how Hayward and the surrounding areas came to be. Science: Third graders will focus on physical and life science this year. The first unit will include study about habitats and endangered animals, with a report on a specific endangered animal. Students will also learn about scientific processes, the study of matter, and the solar system. P.E. is taught 2 days a week by departmentalized teachers.
